Hello sweet chicks.
Today for my Artful Thursday project I am sewing a Sling Tote bag. I found the pattern in Kaari Meng's French General Book- Home Sewn. My daughter Brookie asked me if I would make one for her for our family vacation this weekend. This is the daughter who teases me and will say things like, "oh Mom, I see you remembered how to thread your sewing machine!" She wants to use the bag to carry small projects in for the kids- like crayons and notebooks.
I chose bright colored fabrics that I thought she might like.
It's a perfect bag for toting things around. I made the handles longer so you can wear the tote just like a back pack. The project was harder than I thought it would be. But then again If I had read the directions beforehand I would have read that the skill level for this project was "experienced!" My sewing skills are very basic. The hardest part was sewing the bottom of the bag (the square part) to the perimeter of the bag.
I added a small pocket to the inside of the bag and a flower made with vintage hat netting and fabric scraps. For the tie closures I used seam binding ribbon. We are headed to Southern California this weekend- all 18 of us. I'll be sure to tuck a bottle of Tylenol in the tote. LOL!
Happy Artful Thursday
