Artful Thursday
I have been spending my days in the beautiful mountains of Heber Utah attending the Art Nest retreat. It has been a wonderful time gleaning from the sweet talents of Ruth Rae and Stephanie Lee who have nurtured us with their art. It has been so fun to create and play all day, spending time with an amazing group of women. Today for my Artful Thursday project I will share with you what we created with Ruth Rae.
We spent the morning dyeing fabrics with tea's and coffee. The prettiest color of pink was created by using red zinger tea. Some of the fabrics had been stamped with inks.
After our fabrics had dried in the the warm sunshine we created layered, tattered and stitched samples that we will create a book with.
We used pretty papers that we sewed to our fabrics.
Using tattered pieces of vintage trims and lace make the details so fun.
I used a pink netting that I layered over my bird image.
Sweet pockets are added to tuck in treasured photographs or keepsakes.
It was so fun creating these samples using my collection of pretty trims and laces.
I will share the completed book next week for my Artful Thursday project.
Just a sneak peek of what we are creating with the talented Stephanie Lee.
Happy Artful Thursday

This looks like so much fun - can't wait to see the finished book. Last summer I picked and froze marigold flowers to dye fabrics with - should give me a nice yellow color - but I haven't gotten around to it yet!

Hi Lorraine,
What beautiful things you have made and what a fun retreat that must have been.
I would never have thought of using Red Zinger (which I drink a lot) I will have to try this instead of tea or coffee.
I can't wait to see what you show us on Thursday.
Thank you for showing us your lovely work.
Happy weekend
Hugs
Carolyn

Lorraine, this book is so beautiful. I love the natural colors and that you hand dyed the fabric. I took a class taught by Ruth Rae last year and she is such a wonderful teacher and so inspiring. Can't wait to see your finished book.
